Stop Posting Cat Memes: Start Supporting Our Grammy Nominees

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet. If you are a Dirtbag and you listen to rock, metal, or heavy music this applies to you especially. This is a big year for the Grammy’s. 60 years they’ve been throwing and organizing this party. I know, I know. Awards for art is a silly concept. Is it? Is rewarding the hard work of group’s of people helping to produce the best music to the most people so far fetched? Don’t you like discovering new music as well as nostalgically reliving old records that have been repurchased multiple times or have physically started to decay because you listened so much?

It’s not. We just have to change our approach. We need to be able to recognize a promotional opportunity, and who and what it supports. Posting about your favorite band or recording is one way. Sharing tour schedules, going to shows, buying merchandise and music are certainly others. What about promoting bigger accomplishments? Like Mastodon being nominated for multiple Grammy’s once again! or how about Nothing More’s 3 Grammy nominations during their first at bat. If those dudes, don’t win at least one Grammy. I will never watch the Grammy’s again. I really feel like the Grammy Voting Members got it right this time. Hell, Nothing More is currently on a European tour after just finishing a US tour. Back to back. What pop star or country artist is able to do that at Nothing More’s level? We should be celebrating these guys and “our industry’s” accomplishments.

These great bands in our home genre have done their part and delivered to us timeless amazing music to help fuel our lives. We MUST return the favor. Even if you have never heard of them, seen a show, don’t like the nominations or even like award shows. Supporting these artists and the others like Meshuggah sets a huge precedence in our part of music. If we want heavy music to grow, we must add new listeners. To add new listeners, we must tell them about these bands that are being lifted upon the thrown of the Grammy’s. What better way than show them the best for 2017? The best of our music and the best of what we like. Show your friends these artists whom they normally wouldn’t listen to.

Convert them all.

Now is the time. Share the post. Spread the word. Celebrate our victory.

Congratulations to all the Rock and Metal nominees. Dirtbags support you.

Elisium Releases New Record: Signifcantius Vitae XIXXVII

There once was a workhorse called Elisium

Whose home was a white metal box on 4 rubber wheels

They were a 3-piece outfit made up of 3 Days Grace and Chevelle,

A pinch of magic, a little mystery or even a little something more…

They’re songs are ambient and brainy

Provoking and aggressive

They are the real deal

Looking them in the eyes will tell you

That’s what it takes in 2017

and what most bands don’t have,

Confidence in themselves and a room to command

A gift of brothers who choose to walk the less traveled path

Setting the example, being bold, and taking a stand

Against the odds, and the trials and tribulations,

And the absolute beauty

of being in a modern rock n roll band

It’s about the “short cuts” and the “small things”

And the blood, sweat and tears… the love, and the passion

The dedication, and the life of effort that goes into it

I’ve been a fan for a few years, especially after sharing some stages

Significantius Vitae XIXXVII  is this latest of 4 releases

Open your browser and just copy and paste it

Curse The Fall Set to Release Symbiosis 11/21/17

Curse The Fall…. A 4-piece hard rock metal core blend of midwestern musical sauvignon. These boys are from the OKC in our beloved panhandle state. I’m a fan of Oklahomans already so this interview may be a little bias. I’ve personally toured through Lawton and OKC multiple times and love both. Last August, we played on a Sunday night to at least 75 people. Good job Oklahoma. There is a lot of hardworking talent and venues that support the heavy music community. I’m honored and humbled to give my opinion of one their own.

Seasons is a 4:00 min rock hard gritty wall of sound consisting of squishy and pronounced guitars, a bass guitar that fills every 200-500hz void like a musical metal jelly doughnut. You know…  like bacon on a maple glazed kind of doughnut… So fuckin good. The drum performance that was captured sounds good. Like the drummer showed up motivated and willing to do his job. Good job!  I do feel that drums could have been mixed a bit larger. But what the fuck do i know. And… the singer. I always enjoy a singer who can actually present himself with some emotion, character, and presentation. It sounds like he hasn’t quite found his unique identity as a vocalist, you know that thing we all feel when Randy, Howard, Jesse or one of the lovely Butcher Babies gets behind the mic, but he is well on his way. As the entire band is.

I like the overall composition and length of the song. The dynamics between all the instruments was well thought out and executed for a hard-rock metalcore snack. Although, I believe the bass could have been thicker in the low end and the drums could have been larger the overall mix is good. Sort of like spicy Chex mix without those burnt toasty crunchy things that nobody likes. It’s a tad bit messy getting the Chex dust on your fingers while eating it but you can’t stop eating it because the overall mission is being accomplished. This song fills the belly of the heavy music listeners soul. Thank you.

Gotta go get some spicy Chex mix and listen to the rest of the EP titled Symbiosis which will be available for your listening and purchasing pleasure 11/21/17. Buy Curse The Fall’s new record Symbiosis and then prepare to mack down on Thanksgiving dinner a few days later… I see what you guys did there. Good work! Maybe we’ll see you in OKC sometime or somewhere down the road.

Dead Animal Assembly Plant (DAAP) introduce “Rise With Me”

Dead Animal Assembly Plant’s official music video for song “Rise With Me” from the album “OFH: Prime Cuts.”

Witness as popular media exploits our obsession with violence and mass shootings in the pursuit of higher ratings. Explore the depths in which those minds twisted, on the brink of total madness, are fueled by their dark desires. Commanded by the priestess – an effigy of all that want but cannot have. They prepare to face their social obligations as agents of divine fear and delusional retribution.

*The version used for the music video was mixed by Marc Jordan and mastered by Howie Weinberg. The original appears on the album “Old Fashion Hellfire.”
